The nonprofit Sun Valley Center for the Arts announced this week that its new executive director, Terri Trotter, of Fayetteville, Ark., will start work on Sept. 4.
Trotter is leaving her position as chief operating officer of the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, where she has worked for 16 years.
“I am excited to join the Sun Valley Center for the Arts,” Trotter said in a prepared statement. “The organization is clearly valued and respected in the community, and that success is due to a passionate board and talented staff.  I look forward to being part of the team as we move The Center forward.”
Trotter was selected following a nationwide search conducted by the organization’s board of directors. Helped by Greg Phillips of Creative Stage Arts Development, The Center selected Trotter in part for her background in the arts and also for her marketing and development experience, a news release states.
“Terri’s progressive leadership roles and successes at the Walton Arts Center are impressive,” said Center Board Chairman John Gaeddert. “She’s a great communicator.”
At the Walton Arts Center, Trotter held a number of leadership roles. During her most recent stint as COO, she was instrumental in the planning and design of both a 28,000-square-foot building expansion/renovation and a new 7,000-seat amphitheater. Trotter also had a key role in program development. She helped to launch the Artosphere arts and nature festival, an event that combines sustainability and ecology with visual and performing arts.
“She has an impressive history as an arts administrator and possesses the marketing and leadership skills needed to propel us into the next chapter,” said Kristin Poole, artistic director for The Center.
Before working at the Walton Arts Center, Trot-
ter worked in business development, special events and entertainment marketing, and theater, both on-stage and off. She is involved in the national arts scene, having served in a leadership capacity on the board of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters and as a committee member on The Broadway League.
Trotter has a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in communication studies and a master’s degree in telecommunications from Indiana University. She is moving to the Wood River Valley with her husband and three school-aged children.
“My family and I look forward to becoming part of the Sun Valley community,” she said.
