Energy story needs clarification

Regarding the July 25 article “Panel discusses energy, new power line,” there needs to be some clarification of information.
The July 25 article is incorrect on two counts:
1.    The article states that a redundant power line would take 16 years to build. Idaho Power spokesperson Adam Richins said the construction would begin in 2016, not that it would take 16 years to build.
2.    The reporter states that the 2009 Christmas outage resulted from ice buildup on the Midpoint line. She fails to say that when the load was transferred to the King line that it too failed as a result of faulty splicing. The main line and the redundant line failed, resulting in the loss of power to our valley, south and north.
Energy issues are confusing, especially in the rapidly changing world of solar and other renewables. It’s critical that the community is presented accurate information on all counts in order to make educated and progressive decisions about our energy future.

Editor’s note: The story did incorrectly state that the line would take 16 years to build. The online version of the story was corrected the day the newspaper was published.
