Get your glam on with Chris Isaak

Musician and Hollywood star to play River Run on Aug. 6

    Singer-songwriter and Hollywood collaborator Chris Isaak will perform at the River Run Lodge in Ketchum on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 8 p.m., bringing his rocker/crooner style reminiscent of Memphis greats Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis.
    “This will be a night to remember,” said Kristine Bretall, director of performing arts, at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. “Expect not just a concert, but a show. It’s going to be a fun one.”
    Isaak was seemingly born to succeed. He was both class president and head cheerleader at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Stockton, Calif. His best-known songs, “Wicked Game,” “San Francisco Days” and “Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing,” are now classics.
    Isaak’s latest album “Beyond the Sun” is an homage to 1950s and 60s Memphis Sun Studio artists.
    The Examiner.com website reviewed a recent summer concert saying, “The Phoenix crowd can’t help falling in love with Chris Isaak. With suits that would make Elvis, Liberace or James Brown look sedate, he could have just stepped off a Las Vegas lounge stage. His band looks as if they played with The Good Old Boys from ‘The Blues Brothers’ movie. … He will also give you one of the best concert experiences you’ll ever have.”
    Isaak’s music has been featured on soundtracks for David Lynch’s films “Blue Velvet” and “Wild at Heart,” as well as Stanley Kubrik’s film “Eyes Wide Shut.” He has also acted in numerous Hollywood films, including “Little Buddha,” “Married to the Mob” and “The Silence of the Lambs.”
    Isaak has also been in numerous films and TV shows. He played himself, with self-deprecating wit, in the TV cult favorite “The Chris Isaak Show.” More recently, he appeared on “Celebrity Bucket List” and acted opposite Betty White during an episode of “Hot in Cleveland.”
    Last winter, Isaak went to Nashville to help induct one of his music heroes, Roy Orbison, into the Musicians Hall Of Fame.        The concert begins at 8 p.m. (later than usual) and there will be no opening act. Tickets are $35 for Center members and $45 for non-members. Early-entry tickets, which allow entry 15 minutes prior to general admission entry (at 7 p.m.), are available for $80 to Sun Valley Center members and $90 for non-members.
    River Run patrons should be advised of a new alcohol policy: Due to liability concerns, Sun Valley Co. will no longer allow outside alcohol at concerts. Alcoholic drinks will be served inside the venue to guests with proper identification. Picnics, however, are still allowed at River Run.
