Swimmers take to Elko High Altitude meet

Recent splashes in the pool


     Three swimmers represented Sun Valley 5B team in the Elko (Nev.) High Altitude Invitational June 28-29.

     Coach Brian Gallagher accompanied 13-year-olds Zach Deal and Mason Johnson, and 19-year-old Sterling Wright. Each placed first, second or third in their disciplines.

     The swimmers joined 110 swimmers from nine Snake River Swimming teams and one from Wyoming.

     Deal captured six first-place finishes in 100 and 200 free, 100 and 200 breast, 200 I.M. and 100 fly. He placed second in the 50 and 400 free. Deal finished first in Men’s 13-14 overall class standings and earned the meet’s high-point award.

     Johnson had five first-place finishes in Men’s 13-14—200, 400 and 800 free, and 100 and 200 back. He picked up second place in 50 fly and 100 free, and third in the 50 free.

     Wright finished third overall in the standings in Men’s 15-and-over while winning the 100/200 back and 200 free. He recorded a pair of second-place finishes in 50 fly and 50 free. He was third in 100 free.

     The Snake River Swimming Summer Championships were held in Twin Falls Friday through Sunday, July 25-27. Results will be published when they are made available.

     In other recent swim results:

     There were 220 swimmers from 13 teams at the Snake River Swimming Association of Idaho’s Summer Heat Meet hosted by the Magic Valley Marlins June 21 in Twin Falls. 

     Seven Sun Valley 5B swimmers competed in the one-day timed finals. Gallagher had high praise for his swimmers:

     Men 13-14: Mason Johnson had three first-place finishes in 200 free and 200/400 I.M., and picked up second place 50 fly;

     Women 15-and-over: Kaedi Fry won both the 50 breast and 200 I.M., taking second in 100 fly and third in the 200 free;

     Chiloe Spelius placed first in 50 fly, with three second-place finishes in 200 I.M., 50 free and 100 back. Elizabeth Fry, a 5B alum and distance specialist for Linfield College, placed 2nd in 200 free and 3rd in 50 free.

     Women 13-14: Clara Harding took 10th place in the 100 breast and 12th in the 50 free;

     Women 11-12: Eva Carson won 100 fly, placed fourth in 50 free and 100 breast, and took fifth in the 50 back;

     Maren Feltman 9th in 50 back, 10th in 100 free, 14th in 100 free and 12th in 100 back.
