5B swimmers take to Elko High Altitude Invitational

    Three swimmers represented Sun Valley 5B Swimming in the Elko High Altitude Invitational held June 28-29 in Elko Nev., with each placing first, second or third in all their disciplines.

     Coach Brian Gallagher accompanied 13-year olds Zach Deal and Mason Johnson, and 19-year old Sterling Wright for the two-day meet.

     The swimmers joined 110 swimmers from nine Snake River Swimming teams and one from Wyoming.

     Zach Deal took six 1^st place finishes in the 100 and 200 Free, 100 and 200 Breast, 200 I.M. and the 100 Fly. Deal placed 2^nd in the 50 and 400 Free. He also finished 1^st in Men’s 13-14 over-all standings. Deal received the meet’s high-point award.

     Teammate Mason Johnson had five 1^st place finishes in Men’s 13-14 200, 400 and 800 Free; and 100 and 200 Back. He also picked up second place in the 50 Fly and 100 Free, and a 3^rd in the 50 Free.

     Sterling Wright finished 3^rd overall in standings in Men’s 15 & Over while winning the 100 and 200 Back and 200 Free. He took two 2^nd place finishes in the 50 Fly and 50 Free. He also picked up a 3^rd place finish in the 100 Free.

     Gallagher continues to train SV5B at Elkhorn’s Harker Pool week-day mornings with an eye the 2014 Snake River Swimming Summer Championships which will be held in Twin Falls which starts this Friday, July 25th-27th.

     There were 220 swimmers from 13 teams at the Snake River Swimming Association of Idaho that competed in the Summer Heat Meet hosted by the Magic Valley Marlins on June 21 in Twin Falls.

     Seven members of the Sun Valley 5B Swim Team competed in the one-day timed finals. Coach Brian Gallagher had high praises for his high-place finishers:

     Men 13-14: Mason Johnson had three 1st places finishes in the 200 free, 200 and 400 intermediate (I.M.), and picked up a 2nd place in the 50 Fly.

     Women 15 & Over: Kaedi Fry won both the 50 Breast and 200 I.M., taking 2nd in the 100 Fly and 3rd in the 200 Free.

     Teammate Chiloe Spelius placed 1st in the 50 Fly, with three 2nd place finishes in the 200 I.M., 50 Free and 100 Back. Elizabeth Fry, a 5B alum and distance specialist for Linfield College, placed 2nd in the 200 Free and 3rd in the 50 Free.

     Women 13-14: Clara Harding took 10th place in the 100 Breast and 12th in the 50 Free.

     Women 11-12: Eva Carson won the 100 Fly, placed 4th in both the 50 Free and 100 Breast and took a 5th in the 50 Back.

     Maren Feltman finished 9th in the 50 Back, 10th in the 100 Free, 14th in the 100 Free and 12th in the 100 Back.
