A Hailey man arrested Saturday on two misdemeanor warrants now faces a felony charge for allegedly possessing methamphetamine when taken into custody.
Chad M. Shipp, 24, remained incarcerated Tuesday in the Blaine County jail on $20,000 bond. He was formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a felony, at an initial court appearance Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. The Roark Law Firm was appointed as public defender and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 29 before Judge Daniel Dolan.
According to court records, Shipp was initially arrested on a warrant accusing him of a probation violation from a 2012 misdemeanor conviction of possession of a controlled substance and a warrant accusing him of failure to pay on a 2013 misdemeanor conviction for failure to provide proof of insurance.
Hailey police Lt. Steve England said Monday that Shipp had fled from police two times before—once in downtown Hailey and once in the Woodside area of southeast Hailey—prior to his arrest, without incident, at about 8 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of West Birch and Main streets in Bellevue.
“I guess he decided he was tired of running,” England said.
