“The lineup this year is unparalleled,” said Sun Valley Center for the Art’s Christine Davis-Jeffers of the revamped weekend dedicated to fine wine and fine fun to raise funds for the area’s finest arts education and programming for 43 years. “From our vintner dinners and gala to Vine & Dine, we’re looking forward to an incredible three days.”
Now in its 33rd year, the Wine Auction weekend is Thursday, July 17, through Saturday, July 19, and includes outstanding food and wine, exclusive auction lots, and unforgettable entertainment.
Incredible wine is naturally a highlight of the Wine Auction weekend. This year, The Center is pleased to welcome vintners from esteemed wineries such as Dana Estate, Failla, Peay, Chappellet and others participating in exclusive vintner dinners, the lively gala Friday at the base of Dollar Mountain, and the grand outdoor tasting and the picnic, now paired together as the “Vine & Dine” on Saturday, also at Dollar Mountain.
The Center will welcome Executive Chef Rob Wilson, of Montage in Laguna Beach, Calif., to work alongside renowned chefs Justin Smillie of il Buco Alimentari e Vineria in New York City and Beau Macmillan of Sanctuary Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz. They will work with local chefs on Thursday night to impress guests at vintner dinners that pair top-notch food with high-end wines. The dinners are held at private locations throughout Sun Valley.
Entertainment for the weekend includes Brian Sanders’ “Junk” for the “Make a Difference”-themed gala and Ballroom Thieves for “Vine & Dine.”
“Junk” is known for an ingenious choreography that blends traditional dance theater with an inventiveness and physicality, earning distinction from one critic as “dare-devilish physical theater.”
Boston-based Ballroom Thieves is a high-energy trio blending guitar, cello and percussion to produce soulful, intense folk music.
The gala evening includes the live and silent auctions with some very special lots for sale. The preparation is ongoing to signify the 20th anniversary of the Atkinsons’ family lot donation of specialty etched (featuring various perspectives of the majestic Bald Mountain) wine bottles to the annual Sun Valley Wine Auction.
The winning bidder of the Atkinsons’ lot will not only take home the delicious wine from award-winning wineries—including Col Solare, Cote Bonneville DuBrul Vineyards, L’Ecole, Leonetti Cellar, Quilceda Creek Winery, Va Piano Vineyards and Woodward Canyon Winery—but also the original artwork conceived by local artist Jennifer Bellinger. The title of the lot will be “Goodnight, Sun Valley,” portraying a scene of a joyous Sun Valley winter holiday.
The auction program will also commemorate and celebrate the life of auctioneer Dave Reynolds, who passed away this year. For 30 years, his vibrancy and professionalism led the Wine Auction to tremendous success year after year, including recognition from Wine Spectator magazine as one of the Top 10 wine auctions in the nation.
A very special auction lot created in his honor, comprised of 30 select magnums, is certain to prove an incredible highlight of the evening.
