Bike path project moves north toward Hailey

Bellevue to Woodside Blvd. section done

     Work on Phase One of the two-year Wood River Trails reconstruction project is moving along pretty much on schedule, according to Blaine County Recreation District trails administrative assistant Janelle Conners.

     Contractor Idaho Sand and Gravel started the project in Bellevue June 17. Plans call for work to move north in sections and finish for the year at East Fork between Ketchum and Hailey in mid-October, Conners said. “We’ve made good progress,” she said.

     As of Wednesday, July 9, a one-mile section of the bike path from Bellevue’s Spruce Street to Woodside Blvd. has been freshly paved and completed—ready for use.

     The section from Gannett Rd. to Oak St. in Bellevue is still a gravel surface. But Conners said on Monday, “We plan to have it paved by the end of this week.”

     She added, “We had moisture problems and ran into a snafu with the mix that they had. They did more testing and now they’ve gone ahead with that mix. It was a little delay, but now we’re back on track.”

     This week, the section from Woodside Blvd. to Countryside Blvd. is closed. Pulverized grading is being done, and the crews will start paving the section next week, Conners said. That section is expected to be completed by July 24, she said.

     Subsequently, crews will begin work on the section from Countryside Blvd. to Fox Acres Rd. in Hailey. By early August, that should be completed and the project will continue through the heart of Hailey.

     On May 21, Blaine County voters approved a two-year temporary levy to reconstruct, resurface and rehabilitate the Wood River bike path from Bellevue to north of Ketchum in order to restore its useful life for another 30 years. The 20-mile artery through the valley was first built in 1984.
