Robinson, Brazil lead Masters in Twilight criterium

Thousands view Boise races Saturday

On a hot Saturday night in Boise, thousands of spectators cheered for the bicycle racers competing in the 28th annual Andersen Banducci Twilight Criterium races on July 12.

Ketchum-based racers Scott Robinson, 44, of Kryki Sports and Joel Brazil, 47, of Team Audi led the 30-racer field of Men’s Masters 40-plus Category 1/2/3/4 racers. Robinson’s final time was 44:07.8 and Brazil logged 44:08.4 for second place.

Robinson (45:00.7) also placed 28th of 54 racers in the Cat. 1/2/3 race Saturday night, behind winner Michael Wilcox, 34, of Salt Lake City (44:54.3).

Last year, Robinson placed second in the Masters 40-plus category at the Boise Twilight Criterium. Among his other bike accomplishments: Third place in the Masters 40-49 super downhill at the 2012 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Cross-Country nationals on Baldy.

Most recently, Brazil finished seventh in the Men’s 45-49 class at the USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike Nationals July 5 in Sun Valley.

Top men and women in the Twilight Criterium were Ken Hanson, 32, of San Diego, Ca. and the UnitedHealthCare squad, and Erica Allar, 29, of Tucson, Az. and the Colavita-Fine Cooking team. Allar was a USA Cycling Timed Trial 500-meter national champ in 2013.

Placing seventh in the 37-racer Pro 1/2 Women’s criterium behind Allar was recent Hailey Criterium champion Tina Pic, 48, of Hailey and the Fearless Femme/Pure Energy Cycling team. Pic was a six-time U.S. National criterium queen, in 2002-05, 2007 and 2009.
