Boy injured in accident near Stanley

Custer County Sheriff’s Office reports 5-year-old transported to Boise

    The Custer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that a 5-year-old boy was flown by emergency aircraft to a Boise hospital after being injured on a family outing Sunday in the Kelly Creek area near Stanley.
    Neither the sheriff’s office nor the Stanley Ambulance Service could provide the name of the boy or say to which hospital in Boise the boy was taken.
    A dispatcher at the Sheriff’s Office said the accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. The dispatcher said the Sheriff’s Office was notified by a 911 call and that the family of the boy took him to Stanley. From there, the boy was transported by Stanley Ambulance Service to the Smiley Creek Airport and was flown from there to Boise.
    The dispatcher said that it was initially reported that a tree fell on the boy while the family was cutting firewood. However, the dispatcher said that a Custer County officer who went to the scene of the accident determined that the boy was struck by a dead branch that fell on him while he was lying on a hammock suspended between two trees.
    The dispatcher further reported that the boy was “bleeding profusely” from the head.
