It’s time to end spring bear hunting here

    Your article regarding the rescue of two bear cubs after the mother sow was shot by a hunter begs the question, “Why do we allow spring bear hunting in the first place?”
   Idaho is one of only a few states that allows this cruel practice. When the bears emerge from hibernation, they are slower and easy prey. Sows often send their cubs into trees when sensing danger and therefore are not always seen with the cubs, as happened in this case. The hunter himself acted responsibly, but the fact remains that nature deserves a more responsible management than allowing hunters to kill bears that may have offspring in the wings.
   Every time this issue is addressed, the outcry is that big government is telling everyone what they can and cannot do. Isn’t ending spring bear hunting the humane thing to do?
