Monument would put Boulder-White Clouds on the map

The more I think about it, the more I like the national monument proposal for the Boulder-White Cloud Mountains. I particularly like the flexibility that a national monument would provide, allowing for all existing uses to continue such as hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, motorcycling and other motorized uses in this world-class crown jewel in Central Idaho.
As a member of the Idaho Outdoor Business Council, I also see the monument as being a positive driver for increased tourism and economic development. The monument would benefit outdoor retail stores in Stanley and the Wood River Valley, but it also would have a very positive impact in the Boise market, where locals and tourists can buy gear to prepare for a big trip in the Boulder-White Clouds. It would also benefit hotels, restaurants, car rental and shuttle services, to name just a few. This is a place that folks get excited about because it’s so spectacular and fun to experience. A monument designation would help put the Boulder-White Clouds on the map for more people to enjoy. But at the same time, it’s important for the Forest Service and BLM to manage the area’s ecological resources so they can be sustained for future generations.
