Don’t hesitate: Get your tickets and prepare to celebrate

Hate to be the only one on Monday morning who doesn’t have a great story to tell about the weekend? Seal your destiny as someone whom people will envy by getting your tickets early for the 37th Northern Rockies Music Festival.
The festival will be held Friday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 2, at Hop Porter Park in Hailey.
The event features live music, food and art vendors, raffles, a playground and overnight camping in an area adjacent to the staging area right next to the Big Wood River.
It’s the local favorite and the most affordable musical gathering in the region, bringing together rising stars and established artists to dance and sing.
Headliners are The Damn Quails, a roots band from Oklahoma, on Friday, and the Paul Thorn Band from Mississippi, on Saturday.
Other featured bands are Jackson Tanner, and Far West from L.A., the Jimmy Robb Band from Portland, Smoke n’ Bones from New Orleans, plus Wood River Valley bands Sheep Bridge Jumpers and Tylor Bushman. Tweeners includes Spike Coggins, Connor Wade and Maude Mauder with George Devore, from Austin, Texas.
The Damn Quails are easy-listening and smooth-grooving with a soft harmonica for good measure. The harmonies of leads Gabe Marshall and Bryon White bring to mind collaborations like the Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel. They will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Paul Thorn, who plays at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, is known for bluesy, rocking and muscular roots music. The Tupelo, Miss., native worked in a furniture factory, jumped out of airplanes and was a professional boxer before sharing his experiences with the world as a singer-songwriter. “Pimps and Preachers,” which topped the Americana charts for three weeks and broke into the Billboard Top 100, perfectly exemplified the vivid scope of his songwriting and illuminated his family background.
While his father is a Church of God Pentecostal minister, his uncle (his father’s brother) spent time as a pimp, and Thorn was influenced by both those men. Mining these “saint-and-sinner” scenarios, Thorn crafted a disc that All Music Guide lauded as a “great rock ’n’ roll album,” while The Nation labeled it “an incredible find.”
Tylor Bushman lives in Boise and counts among his musical influences Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, John Prine, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Jerry Jeff Walker, Todd Snider, Micky & The Motorcars, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Hayes Carll, Whiskey Myers, Chris Knight and Corb Lund.
