Young figure skaters honored at awards fete

SVFSC presents annual awards and more

    Celebrating athletic accom-plishment and good sportsman-ship, the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club (SVFSC) recently staged its annual awards cere-mony and club party at Sun Valley’s outdoor rink.
   The SVFSC has over 100 members ages 4-85.
   Highlights were four annual special awards and the presen-tation of official U.S. Figure Skating gold pins to newly-minted USFS testing gold medalists Joyce Chan, Grace Hoffman, Natalia Irvine and Abby Chase.
   Chan earned her gold medal in Moves in The Field. Hoffman, Irvine, and Chase earned gold medals in Ice Dancing.
   Special Awards for top mer-its in athletic achievement and sportsmanship went to Joyce Chan, Blake Letourneau, and Antonia Avery.
   Chan earned the SVFSC’s highest Juvenile through Sen-ior level awards. They are the Herman Maricich Award for athletic accomplishment, and the Judy Fuller Sportsmanship Award for positive attitude and volunteerism.
   Blake Letourneau received the Lolly Jensen Achievement Award. Antonia Avery ac-cepted the Daisy Langley Jun-ior Sportsmanship Award.
   Special mention for becom-ing national champions in the-atrical skating at the 2014 USFS National Showcase Competi-tion went to Alex Harten, Joyce Chan, Blake Letourneau, Emma Stuessi, Lane Le-tourneau and Alex Stuessi, plus the 10 members of the “Famous Potatoes” national champion-ship Production Ensemble team.
   They are Antonia Avery, Isabella Bourret, Joyce Chan, Sage Curtis, Alexandra Harten, Blake Letourneau, Lane Le-tourneau, Alex Stuessi, Emma Stuessi and Katie Peters.
   Chan was recognized for participating in the Northwest Pacific Regional Champion-ships last fall, and Katie Peters and Sheldon Gentling were singled out for participating in non-qualifying regional compe-titions.
   Each skater in attendance received gifts and a special cer-tificate listing his or her per-sonal achievements in competi-tion and USFS Testing for the skating year 2013-14.
   This summer, the SVFSC hosts the Sun Valley Summer Championships July 24-27, and USFS test sessions Aug. 3 and 31. Its chief fundraiser the “Battle of the Blades) is Sept. 5 on resort ice.
