YMCA track meet attracts middle school athletes

At Mountain View in Meridian


     Eleven Blaine County and Camas County middle school track and field athletes competed in the YMCA Middle School Regional Championship on Saturday, May 24 at Mountain View High School in Meridian.

     They were, from Wood River Middle School in Hailey, Kirsys Campbell, Dakota Hutton-King and Lauren Roberts; from the Community School in Sun Valley, Henry Raff, Jaren Bothwell and Christian Bothwell; and, from Fairfield’s Camas County High School, Nicole Stampke, Shelby Sanders, Skye Sabin, Megan Tews and Bailey Peterson.

     Camas County (26 points) finished tied for third of 12 teams in the sixth-grade girls’ team standings led by Skye Sabin’s second-place in 100-meter high hurdles (20.9) and her first place in triple jump at 27-10.5.

     Athletes from Wood River Middle School and the Community School raced for Idaho Ice Track Club.

     To compete at Meridian, an athlete had to finish in the top three at a conference competition or meet qualifying standards. Local results were:

Grades 7-8

     Community School: Henry Raff 6th 1600-meter run (5:10.77, PR) and 8th 800m (2:29.04); Jaren Bothwell 18th 100m dash (13.49), 16th 200m (27.62) and 9th 400m (1:01.51, PR); and Christian Bothwell 18th 800m (2:43.53) and 19th 1600m (5:43.27)

     WRMS: Dakota King Hutton 9th 100m (14.31) and 8th 200m (29.76); and Kirsys Campbell 4th 800m (2:42.14) and 5th 1600m (5:57.48).

     Camas County: Nicole Stampke 6th 400m (1:07.47) and 8th high jump (4-2); Megan Tews 5th discus (74-0); and Bailey Peterson 7th triple jump (26-7.75).

Grade 6

     WRMS: Lauren Roberts 4th 100m (14.98), 5th 200m (32.77) and 5th 400m (1:12.29) for all 13 of Wood River’s team points.

     Camas County: Shelby Sanders 2nd 800m (2:49.69); and Skye Sabin 2nd 100m high hurdles (20.90) and 1st triple jump (27-10.5).
