Vote against proposed county road tax

    Join us in voting “No” on the proposed Blaine County Road, Street and Bridge Levy. There are other options available rather than raising our property taxes. Past and current commissioners have exercised these options by getting out of owning and operating hospitals and nursing homes. Why don’t they exercise the same option on this issue?
    Our commissioners seem to be oblivious to the fact that we are still in a recession and many of us property owners have lowered our rents and are still keeping them low so our tenants can exist. They also seem to be unaware that we are coming off a bad ski season, which affects employers and employees alike.
    Our country, some states and many cities are seeing businesses relocate to areas with lower tax rates. Also, many cities and communities struggling with bankruptcy are bidding their infrastructure repairs out to private companies to save huge sums of money.
    Seems to us a disproportionate amount of this tax is going to gravel roads, which serve areas that are paying very few property taxes. Many of the subdivisions in the valley have private roads that the homeowners maintain.  Is this really fair?
    Not only do we need to vote no on this tax increase but we need to replace these overpaid commissioners when their terms expire. These are the same commissioners who gave themselves a very large raise during a serious recession after hiring a full-time county administrator and a commissioners’ assistant.  They would fit very nicely in Washington, D.C.
