The Wood River Warriors lacrosse team (9-2-0) moved back into first place in the Treasure Valley Lacrosse League (TVLL) Division 2 with a resounding 13-6 win over Emmett (1-9-0) Wednesday evening at Mountain Home.

Wood River bounced back from its 9-4 loss to the hot Vallivue Falcons Saturday with its second-best offensive display led by Hayden Thayer (4 goals), Cooper Bailey (3 goals/1 assist), Anders Fortuin (3/0), Gus Conrad (2/1), Evan Telford (1/0) and Matt Galgano (0/1).

Vallivue’s 8-2 home win over Borah of Boise (8-2-0) Wednesday moved the Warriors back into first place of the seven-team division. Vallivue (6-3-0) snapped Borah’s four-game win streak by winning its fourth straight.

Other big games coming up for playoff seeding are Meridian hosting Vallivue Saturday, May 10 and Borah hosting Vallivue May 15. Wood River finishes up against Meridian (6-3-1) May 14 in Mountain Home.

According to Warriors booster Jay Bailet, the Warriors displayed periods of great play and moments of dysfunction in Wednesday’s first half, then dominated the second half to secure the win.

Fortuin moved from the midfield to attack and found his mojo in the offensive end. He scored his first three goals of the season.

Picking up the rebound from his own shot, Fortuin got the Warriors started slipping it by the Emmett goalie right in front of the crease.

Gus Conrad fed Cooper Bailey in the middle for an easy score. Hayden Thayer showed his ever-increasing shot speed scoring on worm burner from outside the box.

Conrad displayed his versatility finding twine with an off-hand shot following a good face dodge. Bailey added his second goal on a bounce shot from 15 yards out, then made a great move from behind the goal to finish with a turn-around jumper with two defenders in his face.

A bried lapse on defense late in the second quarter allowed Emmett back in the game as they scored three in a row making it 6-4 at half.

The Warriors stepped it up after the break. Evan Telford scored a quick stick goal on a feed from Bailey. And Fortuin plowed through the defense for a goal from 10 yards.

Thayer continued to rip shots from the outside scoring two more. He muscled his way in front of the crease on a feed from Matt Galgano for another goal. Thayer was lit up by two Emmett defenders on that shot and was sidelined for a while to regroup, but he returned late in the fourth quarter.

Conrad and Fortuin each added goals in the fourth.

Nate Jones and Conrad were impressive in faceoffs and senior Keegan Heneghan was brilliant from the wing with a long pole.

Defensively Zach Swanson and Travis Swanson continued to shore up the Warriors middle with well-timed slides and physical play.

Hayes Gilman, Hans Heaphy, and Asher Loomis all provided valuable minutes keeping fresh legs on the field throughout the game.

The Warriors continued to clear the ball well with good outlet passes from goalie Miles Jones (5 saves) leading to fast break opportunities.

Heneghan, Bailey and Bodie Bennett showed great quickness on clears dodging defenders and getting the ball to the offensive end before the defense could set up.
