Hundreds of family members, friends and constituents of the late Bud Purdy congregated Sunday at the Sun Valley Inn Limelight Room for a final tribute to the legendary Picabo rancher, whose saddle and riding gear was on display, above. Family remarks, spearheaded by Purdy’s son Nick, portrayed a man driven by a hard work ethic and a love for the land. Nick Purdy said that the family patriarch, even at 96 years, kept interested in the daily and seasonal ranch workings and progress of a fish-ladder project on the “beloved” Silver Creek. He said his father loved hunting, fishing, skiing, horses, family, ranching, flying, range science, good business, Silver Creek and hard work. Bud Purdy’s work ethic was inherited largely from his grandfather William Kilpatrick and steadfastly handed down through family efforts for the success of future generations. Purdy died April 14 at his Picabo ranch. He was 96. Express photo by Willy Cook
