Update on Sun Valley golf course openings

     Depending on the weather, the White Clouds course at Sun Valley Golf Club is due to open for the season Friday, April 25. A White Clouds season pass is being offered for $1,000 including cart.

     In Friday’s edition, the Mountain Express incorrectly reported that the Sun Valley Front Nine was opening last Friday. What opened was the Back Nine at the Sun Valley course, with the Front Nine due to open the first part of May, according to Head PGA Professional Dominick Conti.

     For the time being, golfers can obtain early-season rates on the Back Nine—$39 per person for nine holes and $65 for the full day. The cost includes cart. Golf pro shop and practice facilities are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., call 622-2251.

     The 18-hole Sawtooth Putting Course will not be open to the public until the first part of May, Conti added.

 

Atkinson Park field use meeting set for April 23

     Mark calendars for today, Wednesday, April 23 if you or your organization plans to use Ketchum’s Atkinson Park for competitive and fun league play in the summer of 2014.

     The Atkinson Park field use meeting is today at 5:30 p.m. in the park’s Rec Building. You must attend the meeting and/or contact park recreation supervisor John Kearney at 726-7820 to register interest in using the facility.

 

Wood River High seniors to be honored for activities

     Four Wood River High School seniors will be honored by the 4th District Activities Association Tuesday, April 29 during an Outstanding Senior Banquet at 7 p.m. that evening at the Turf Club, Twin Falls.

     They are Janel Passey, Mary Petzke, Cooper Bailey and Chase Hutchinson.

     Seniors from each participating high school in the 4th District have been nominated and voted upon by coaches and teachers at their schools to participate in the banquet. They are saluted for their participation in athletic and non-athletic activities, said Wood River High School athletic director John Rade.

 

Hailey Coed Softball League sets May 1 meeting

     League commissioner Mike Beall (720-6842) has scheduled the 2014 Hailey Coed Softball League organizational meeting for Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. at The Wicked Spud in Hailey.

 

SVSEF leads U.S. in enrollment numbers

     The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation led the United States in enrollment numbers with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) during the 2012-13 season, according to Brian Krill, USSA Club Development Manager.

     And this season, according to a recent SVSEF press release, SVSEF enrollment numbers climbed to a seven-year high in 2013-14 with 512 total athletes—the second-highest enrollment in the organization’s 48-year history.

     This year, SVSEF’s programs attracted 205 alpine athletes, 164 cross country, 115 freestyle/freeski and 28 snowboard.
