Creepy-crawlers to put on a show

New textures, colors and guests at Bug Zoo 2014

    The Bug Zoo is a parent-leveler. Whether you are a parent who hates slimy, leggy creatures with a child who loves them, or a parent who has a phobic child when it comes to creepy crawly things, the Sawtooth Botanical Garden’s annual insect exhibit makes it as soothing as possible.
   The Bug Zoo Festival kickoff event is set for Sunday, April 27, from 1-4 p.m., at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden. Then, the Bug Zoo will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends from April 28 to May 10.
   “The Wonders of Adaptations” is a brand new presentation for 2014 that features creatures ranging from reptiles to arachnids to insects of all measure and creation.
   The Bug Zoo Festival will be preceded by a preview event and cocktail party on Friday, April 25, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free for Sawtooth Botanical Garden members and children and $15 for non-member adults.
   During the festival, school kids from throughout the valley will take field trips to the zoo, but to fully appreciate the parent-child reactions under the guidance of trained professional volunteers, people will want to attend the main event.

What: The public is invited to the Bug Zoo Cocktail (and preview) Party Friday, April 25, at 5 p.m.
Where: The Sawtooth Botanical Garden, 11 Gimlet Road, south of Ketchum.
How much: The Cocktail Party is free for members and kids. Non-member adults can attend for $15, but if you join at the door, the event is free.
