Meet the candidates for superintendent

School board schedules special meeting for April 22

   The community is invited to meet final candidates for the Blaine County School District superintendent position at a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 22.
   The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will be held in the Distance Learning Lab at Wood River High School on Fox Acres Road in Hailey.
   The district board of trustees, with the assistance of a selection committee composed of various stakeholders, has been interviewing semifinalists for the position at closed executive sessions this week. The board intends to have narrowed the field to two or three final candidates by April 22.

The general public will also be given
the opportunity to have a voice in
superintendent selection.

    Members of the committee assisting the school board are district Director of Curriculum Angie Martinez, Woodside Elementary School Principal Brad Henson, Administrative Assistant Karen Hoffman, Hailey Elementary School teacher Mark Savageau, Hemingway parent Gretchen Wagner and community member Sergio Ruiz.
   The general public will also be given the opportunity to have a voice in superintendent selection. The district reported in a news release that feedback forms will be provided at the meeting for public comment. According to the news release, public input will be a factor in helping the board make a final decision.
   The new superintendent will replace former Superintendent Lonnie Barber, whose contract with the district was terminated by the board in September 2013. Assistant Superintendent John Blackman has served as interim superintendent since Barber’s termination.
