Martha Rose Byington


    Martha Rose Byington, 82, of Hailey, Idaho, died April 7, 2014.
    Born May 12, 1931, in Stanton, Idaho, she was the daughter of John and Rachel Powers.
    She is survived by her children J.B. Eldredge, Daryl Byington, Nola (Rex) Allen and Angie (Daniel) Krenz; grandchildren Rachel, Summer and Clint Eldredge, Ben, Chris and Thomas Black, Daniel Norton, Alyssa and Austin Krenz, and several nieces and nephews; numerous children and grandchildren she considered her family; one brother, John Powers; three sisters, Bonnie Rice, Sarah (Clyde) Gooch, and Mary (Dave) Baldwin.
    She was preceded in death by her parents John and Rachel Powers; two sisters, Teddie Bell and Alice McKee; and one son, Terry Byington.
    Martha was a longtime resident of the Wood River Valley, where she lived most of her life. She started her first job as a maid for Sun Valley Resort when it was owned by Union Pacific Railroad and continued working that profession for the rest of her life until March 28, 2014.
    She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Shootout Gang and the Community Baptist Church in Hailey, Idaho.
    She loved to read, listen to music, dance, bowl, antiquing, thrift stores, any kind of puzzles, garden, anything to do with history and occasionally play a slot machine or two.
    Martha made many friends along the way. Young and old, big and small, feathered and furred, she treasured them all.
    She laughed, she lived and she loved.
    The visitation is from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Wood River Chapel. The memorial service is at Community Campus at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the Hailey Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Community Campus.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Martha Byington Benifit Fund, D.L. Evans Bank, Hailey, Idaho.
