Hailey gets $20,000 to improve park

Board members recommend landscaping and recreational facilities

     The city of Hailey is deciding how best to spend $20,000 donated for the benefit of Hop Porter Park, known historically as “Hailey Tourist Park.”

     Hop Porter Park is located at 209 East Bullion St. It features about three acres of lawn, swing sets, volleyball courts and an extensive playground structure.

     Hailey Parks and Lands Board members Kathy Noble and Dean Hernandez recommended at a Hailey City Council meeting Monday removing hazardous trees and replanting 10 new ones at a cost of $9,000, improving volleyball areas at a cost of $800, and improving the picnic area with grills, trash cans and benches at a cost of $8,750.

     The representatives advised getting cost estimates on repairing barbecues and staining the pavilion.

     Mayor Fritz Haemmerle recommended studying the redwood play structure for defects, and painting parts of it.

     Hernandez said the play structure would likely have to be replaced within 10 years.

     The council instructed city staff to work with the Parks and Lands Board on final plans, to be approved by the council at a later date.

     The Seagraves Foundation made the grant. It focuses primarily on women’s and children’s issues and benefits charities along the U.S. Highway 93 corridor.
