School board faces bounty of issues

Meeting schedule adjusted to do superintendent interviews

     With budget time approaching and searches under way for a new superintendent and a new board member, the Blaine County School District board of trustees is shuffling its meeting schedule for April.

     Instead of meeting on a Tuesday, which is normally the case, the school board will hold its regular monthly meeting for April on Thursday, April 17. As usual, the meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the district office at 118 West Bullion St. in Hailey.

     District Communications Director Heather Crocker said Thursday that rescheduling the meeting was necessary “to accommodate interviews for the superintendent search.”

     A meeting agenda was released on Thursday and is now available at the district website at www.blaineschools.org.

     Agenda items include consideration of a “student wellness” policy, a “state of the district” report from interim Superintendent John Blackman and a presentation from Crocker, Hailey Fire Department Chief Craig Aberbach and Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter on a new program to recognize good deeds by youths called “Do the Right Thing.”

     The school board also has another meeting scheduled for Thursday, April. 17. It will be held at the district office from noon to 1:30 p.m. and will involve the fourth in a series of fiscal year 2015 proposed budget workshops presented by district Business Manager Mike Chatterton.

     The school board also has tentative meetings planned for the week of April 21. Tentatively, the board will meet on Thursday, April 24, to consider approval of new textbooks and other informational materials for language arts, physical education and health. Also tentatively planned for that meeting will be interviews with applicants for the Zone 4 trustee vacancy if anyone applies by the April 21 deadline.

     Crocker said that also planned for the week of April 21, though not yet finalized, are meetings for the public to meet final candidates for the superintendent position.
