A felony attempted-strangulation charge against a 28-year-old Hailey man will be reduced to misdemeanor battery in accord with a plea agreement the defendant has reached with the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Announcement of the agreement was made Monday at a pretrial conference for Jared Matthew Everett Larsen in Blaine County 5th District Court. Hailey attorney Douglas Werth, appointed public defender for Larsen, said that as part of the agreement two other misdemeanor charges against his client will be dismissed.
Those charges were domestic battery or assault in the presence of a child and intentional destruction of a telecommunication instrument.
No date was announced on Monday for Larsen’s change-of-plea or sentencing hearings. Larsen remains free on $15,000 bond.
According to a probable-cause affidavit filed in the case by Hailey police Patrolman Cliff Logsdon, the charges against Larsen arose from an altercation with a woman he was living with on Dec. 17, 2013, at an apartment on Shenandoah Lane in southeast Hailey. Logsdon wrote that he was sent to the home at about 1:30 a.m. on a 911 emergency call regarding domestic violence.
Logsdon reported that the alleged victim told him that Larsen had punched her in the face several times, pinned her to the floor and choked her with his right forearm and smashed her cell phone when she attempted to call police. Logsdon wrote that woman’s 8-year-old daughter was at the apartment at the time the altercation occurred.
Larsen was gone when police arrived but was later located and arrested.
