CS students awarded arts scholarships

Sun Valley Center helps students further their studies

By EXPRESS STAFF

The Community School announced last week that four it its students are recipients of scholarships from the nonprofit Sun Valley Center for the Arts. The scholarships are intended to help students at the Sun Valley private school further their studies of arts.

Senior Arielle Rawlings received a Gay V. Weake Honorary Award, a college scholarship to assist students who are seriously pursuing the arts as a college major. The award is named after Gay V. Weake, a past executive director of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.

Three other Community School students were awarded high school scholarships to help further their artistic pursuits. A scholarship to junior Cutter Grathwohl will allow Grathwohl to take part in an Experiment International Summer Program on the art of Catalonia, studying in Barcelona, Spain.

A scholarship to junior Sara Runkel will allow her to participate in a National Geographic Summer Photography Expedition, also in Barcelona. Freshman Lane Letourneau was awarded a scholarship to spend part of the summer sketching the beauty of Oxford College and the English countryside as part of the Oxbridge Studio Art Program.

“We couldn’t be more proud of what our students have already accomplished,” said Head of School David Holmes. “These scholarships will allow them to pursue their artistic passions and take their talents to another level.”
