DUI charged after single-car rollover

Driver treated and released at St. Luke’s

    A 27-year-old Gooding man was treated and released at St. Luke’s Wood River hospital following a single-vehicle rollover Friday night on state Highway 75 about a mile south of Timmerman Junction.
    The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Kenny Ray Phelps. Sheriff Gene Ramsey said Phelps, who had to be extricated from his vehicle, complained of “body pain” and was transported to the hospital by Wood River Fire & Rescue ambulance.
    The accident occurred at about 10:10 p.m. According to the accident report, Phelps was northbound in a 2002 Nissan Altima when he lost control of the vehicle.
    “For some reason, he drifted left, went over the outbound lane and then off the roadway and down a hill,” Ramsey said. “He flipped end over end several times. The vehicle was totaled.”
    Ramsey said Phelps was not arrested but was instead issued a citation “charging him with driving under the influence.”
    The sheriff said Phelps was apparently wearing a seatbelt because he was still in the driver’s position in the car when emergency personnel arrived.
