Sun Valley names Tyler Jones as golf director

Former assistant pro takes top job

     Sun Valley Resort on Monday, March 24 announced the return of Tyler Jones who has assumed the title of Director of Golf Operations.

     From 1994-96 Jones worked here at Sun Valley Resort as First Assistant Professional. In his new job he will be responsible for the full operation of Sun Valley's 45 holes of golf—the 18-hole Trail Creek Golf Course, the nine-hole White Clouds Golf Course and the 18-hole Elkhorn Golf Club.

     Jones, 44, a Washington State native and 1992 graduate of Washington State University, comes to Sun Valley with more than 15 years of experience managing successful golf operations in California and Washington.

     Most recently Jones was General Manager at the Olympia Country and Golf Club in Olympia, Wash.

     Starting in Sept. 2009, Jones served as General Manager at the newly opened Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. on the campus of Washington State University.

     Prior to taking the Palouse Ridge job, Jones and his wife Callie lived in California for 12 years. While living there, he was interim Chief Executive Officer for the Northern California Golf Association, the largest regional golf association in the U.S.

     Jones took that post while serving as General Manager for the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Ca. He first arrived in Poppy Hills in 1998 as Head Professional following a two-year stint as First Assistant at Poppy Ridge Golf Club in Livermore, Ca. He became General Manager at Poppy Hills in 2006.

     Among the awards won by Poppy Hills during Jones’ tenure were National Golf course Owners Association National Course of the Year in 2006 and Northern California PGA Merchandiser of the Year in 2000.

     Jones said, “Sun Valley has been a very special place for my family for over 50 years and we are thrilled to be joining the Sun Valley team.

     “I am very much looking forward to the opportunity of carrying on the tradition of offering the highest levels of hospitality and world class amenities that Sun Valley Resort is known for.”

     He is being joined in the Wood River Valley by wife Callie and their two children, Lexy, 16, and Chase, 12.
