Boulder-White Clouds are worthy of protection

As the owners of Idaho Guide Service in Twin Falls, Shelley and I are in the business of offering adrenaline-charged whitewater trips and scenic paddling excursions on the Snake River.
All of this talk about the Boulder-White Clouds made me think about a backcountry skiing trip there a few years ago. We hiked into the area in the spring, when the conditions were safe, and skied down the face of Castle Peak. Man, what a thrill!
If you’ve spent any time in the Boulder-White Clouds, you understand the push for a national monument. The area is truly worthy of national protection. But as Idahoans, we need to shape it so that it fits Idaho. A monument would have more flexibility than a wilderness, and it would allow a broader diversity of outdoor activities such as mountain biking.
I recently joined the Idaho Outdoor Business Council because as owners of recreation businesses, we need to support each other to improve our recreation economy. I can see tourists traveling to Central Idaho to experience the Boulder-White Clouds, and I can see them coming to Twin Falls to go rafting on the Snake, experience the grandeur of Shoshone Falls, and go base jumping off the Perrine Bridge.
We all need to work together for the benefit of our recreation economy. That is why Shelley and I support a Boulder-White Clouds National Monument. Please join us.
