A 44-year-old Hailey man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence following a traffic accident in south Hailey last week that caused injury to a Bellevue woman.
Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said Kenneth Crowson, the driver of a 2001 Ford van that crashed into the rear of another vehicle, was arrested at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 13.
Gunter said the accident occurred when Crowson, driving northbound on state Highway 75, crashed into the rear of a northbound 1984 Chevrolet pickup driven by William Niedrich, 54, of Bellevue. The police chief said a passenger in the Niedrich vehicle, 37-year-old Wilena Chestnov, received a “whip-like type injury” and was transported by Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center.
Gunter said the accident occurred when Niedrich was slowing down at the intersection of Highway 75 and Countryside Boulevard and his vehicle was struck in the rear by the vehicle driven by Crowson.
Gunter said damage to the vehicles indicates that Crowson was driving “well in excess of the 55 mile per hour speed limit” when he crashed into the vehicle driven by Niedrich.
