No one would ever say Paul Tillotson is selfish with the spotlight.
The pianist is wrapping up another winter at Sun Valley Resort’s Duchin Lounge with two extra-special ensembles.
Thanks to a break in the spring schedule for Conan O’Brien’s late-night show on TBS, drummer James Wormworth and bass player Mike Merritt—full-time members of O’Brien’s “Basic Cable Band” and part of “The Love Trio” with Tillotson when he’s in New York—will come to Idaho.
“The Love Trio” has made three CDs together: “Funky Good Time,” “Tequila Time” and “Lindy Hop Blues.”
“Mike and James have played with me in Sun Valley many times,” Tillotson said. “We have played as the Love Trio at the Boiler Room with the New York Connection, at the Duchin Lounge, and twice at the Pavilion, once opening for Sergio Mendez and once opening for the Blind Boys of Alabama.”
They will reconnect in the Duchin tonight, March 19, through Saturday, March 22, from 4:30-8:30 p.m.
Tillotson’s final week of the winter season includes stints with Josh Kelly on drums and Victor Little on bass, from Tuesday, March 25, through Saturday, March 29.
For the last three days, March 27, 28, 29, Tillotson welcomes special guest Johnny Neel, from Nashville.
“He is an incredibly talented blues singer and organ/piano player,” Tillotson said. “We all played together in the Ketchum Town Square last summer. He is a Grammy-nominated former member of the Allman Brothers Band.”
Both shows are no cover and 21-and-over only.
Tillotson said the winter has been a blast for him musically.
“The crowds have been warm, generous, listening and enjoying every minute,” he said. “I am so grateful to be able to play full time again and my health is great and gliding along.  I thank everyone for the love and support and look forward to fun music in the summer and next winter.”
