Snyder’s slalom win a highlight at Bogus

63rd Cranston Cup for U-16s

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Alpine U-16 racers traveled to Boise March 7-9 for the 63rd annual Cranston Cup U16 qualifiers at Bogus Basin.

There were 62 boys and 64 girls from Idaho, Utah and Wyoming including 19 Sun Valley kids. The three-race series consisted of two slaloms and a single giant slalom.

Will Snyder posted the biggest result, winning the Saturday's men’s slalom. He posted the fastest first run by more than a second and was just 0.05 seconds off the top time in the second run to win by 1.04.

Joining Snyder on the front page were Sebastian Mastor, Kristian DeWolfe, John Blackburn, Wyatt Smith and Duncan Fuller, all posting top-15 results in the three-race series.

Royce Rheinschild never finished out of the top 15 in the girls’ series, placing 9th, 11th and 14th. Margot Griffith was 7th and 18th in slalom and 13th in giant slalom. Ava Mazzoni was fourth in the final slalom.

The IMD U-16 Championships will be staged March 19-23 at Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Mountain Resort. Moran/Werner run will be the venue for super G (March 20-21), giant slalom (March 22) and slalom (March 23).

SVSEF will take a baker's dozen to the championship series—four girls and nine boys. Head U-16 coach Scott McGrew said, “It is always a challenge to make the team.”

They are Ava Mazzoni, Margot Griffith, Royce Rheinschild, Sage Rheinschild, Will Snyder, Yuri McClure, John Blackburn, Kristian DeWolfe, Wyatt Smith, Sebastian Mastor, Noah Leininger, Cooper Dart and Duncan Fuller.
