Design begins for next Highway 75 work

Boise firm hired as lead to project design team

    The Idaho Transportation Department announced Monday that the preliminary design process starts this month for the next state Highway 75 construction project between Hailey and Ketchum.
    In a news release, ITD reported that Parametrix Inc., a Boise engineering firm, has been hired to lead the consultant design team for the project.
    The project, the second to be developed in a long-term plan to widen Highway 75 from Timmerman Junction south of Bellevue to Saddle Road in north Ketchum, involves replacement and widening of the Big Wood River bridge north of Hospital Drive. When finished, the new bridge is to have four 12-foot travel lanes plus a 4-foot safety median and road shoulders. The project also involves rebuilding the highway north of the bridge into a four-lane configuration that will fit with other construction under way to the south of the project area. The project runs north from the bridge to just south of the Elkhorn Road intersection with Highway 75.
    ITD further announced that beginning this month that the agency will start outreach to local and other state agencies, neighboring property owners and utility companies.
    The design process is scheduled to run through 2015 and construction is tentatively scheduled to start in 2016.
    ITD reported last week that preliminary work for the project is estimated to cost about $700,000 while actual construction is estimated from $3.5 to $4.5 million.
