Ketchum Community and Economic Development Director Lisa Horowitz has submitted a letter of resignation from her position and plans to reopen a consulting practice.
Horowitz, who specializes in land planning, development and property management projects, served in the position for about six years. Previously, she was the city’s planning director from 1996 through 2002.
“I am proud to have been a part of Ketchum’s growth,” Horowitz said. “A lot has been accomplished despite the economic downturn.”
Ketchum Mayor Nina Jonas said the community and economic development director position will be dissolved. The economic development responsibilities will belong to the city administrator, while city Planning Manager Joyce Allgaier will assume Horowitz’s community development obligations.
Horowitz tendered her resignation on Monday, giving the city one-month notice of her departure. In the meantime, Jonas said, Horowitz will work on transitioning her responsibilities to interim City Administrator Ray Silver and Allgaier.
During Horowitz’s tenure, the city completed approvals for four hotels and launched several urban-renewal projects, including the redevelopment of a former bank building into a visitor center and café. Horowitz also represented the city on various downtown transportation projects.
Jonas said she worked closely with Horowitz during her tenure on the City Council.
“Lisa has always been so positive, energetic and enthusiastic,” Jonas said. “She was great at building relationships and moving projects forward.”

I am proud to have been a part of Ketchum’s growth.”

Before returning to work for Ketchum in 2007, Horowitz was the principal in LH Land Use Consulting, based in Whitefish and Choteau, Mont. From 1990 to 1996, she was in charge of the development program in King County, Wash., which includes Seattle.
“I expect Ketchum’s progress to continue under our new mayor,” Horowitz said. “I enjoyed working with Mayor Nina Jonas when she was on the City Council and I wish her great success in her new role.
“With the hospitality investments announced [last] week by Sun Valley Co., coupled with the new air service, our area is poised for an economic awakening. I look forward to working on projects throughout this valley that add to our quality of life.”
The owners of Sun Valley Resort announced last week that they plan to remodel the entire Sun Valley Lodge and add a 20,000-square-foot spa addition.
