SPORTS SUMMARY

Football crab feed is Saturday

The Wood River High School football program is hosting its third annual “All You Can Eat” crab feed Saturday, March 8 at the high school in Hailey, head coach Kevin Stilling has announced.

The event runs from 5-9 p.m. in the high school commons area. Last year, the crab feed provided financial help for the program’s team camp, for spirit packs (team clothing) and equipment, and for a pre-season team building retreat.

Stilling said, “This has turned into a fun night with lots of chances to win prizes as well as to purchase tickets to win other prizes while enjoying an all-you-can-eat crab dinner.”

Tickets are $30 per person. Stop by the WRHS office and purchase tickets or contact potatofootball@gmailcom. Call Stilling 720-2842 or Margie Balcos at 206-851-4237.

Hunter/jumper show a success for riders

Two Wood River High School students, Macy Mitchell and McKenna Norris, have placed high in an international hunter/jumper horse show in California.

Mitchell and Norris, trained by Teresa Englehart, competed Feb. 23 in the HITS Desert Circuit $1,500 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix class at Thermal, Ca.

Placing first for the $450 top prize was Mitchell with her 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding named Ringmaster. The pair led with first round with a 78 and returned with an 82 in the second round for the win.

Mitchell, 15, said, “I was very surprised. This was his first show back after a year off and we were just on our game for those bending lines and turns.” Ringmaster had taken a brief hiatus in the jumpers before tackling his first-ever hunter event.

Wood River freshman Norris placed ninth in the very competitive class, just out of the money, with her horse Quidam De Rejoice.
