District sets Dual Immersion information meetings

Parents of incoming kindergarten students invited to attend

    The Blaine County School District has scheduled two meetings in March to discuss the district’s Dual Immersion Program. The meetings are specifically geared toward the parents of youngsters who will start kindergarten this coming fall.
   The first meeting is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, at the Community Campus in Hailey. The presentation will be specific to the new Dual Immersion studies only magnet school set to open this coming fall at the current Woodside Elementary School in Hailey. It will be renamed Alturas Elementary.
   A second meeting is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum. The presentation will be specific to the Dual Immersion Program to be retained at Hemingway.
   In the district’s Dual Immersion Program, students are instructed in both English and Spanish with the intent that the students become fluent in both languages. A typical Dual Immersion class is about a 50-50 mix of native English speakers and native Spanish speakers.
   According to a district news release, the meetings will provide an overview of the program. Parents will be given the opportunity to ask questions of teachers and school and program administrators.
   The meetings are being held prior to kindergarten registration, which is scheduled for April 2.
   Interpretation in Spanish will be provided by way of headsets. Free childcare will be provided.
