The Blaine County Education Foundation announced this week that Kathleen McCabe has been selected as the foundation’s new executive director, replacing Mike Burchmore, who left the post in October 2013 to pursue another career opportunity.

According to a Foundation news release, Burchmore, who was hired as executive director in July 2011, continues to serve on the foundation’s Advisory Council.

McCabe, who holds a master’s degree in public administration from Seattle University, has 10 years of experience in various communications, operations and management roles in the nonprofit and public sectors. She has served on the foundation’s board of directors since August 2011.

According to the news release, McCabe has “brought insight and enthusiasm to her board role. She has a deep passion for the importance of public education and communities playing an active role in offering support.”

The foundation also announced the appointment of two new board members, former Blaine County School District trustee and board Chairman Steve Guthrie and Sharma Thornton, a counselor at both Wood River High School and Silver Creek High School.

The foundation further announced that it has recently awarded grants totaling more than $5,000 as part of a competitive application process to teachers from Wood River High School, Woodside Elementary School, Bellevue Elementary School, Hailey Elementary School and Carey Public School. The grants are intended to “benefit every area of academic life from teacher professional development to classroom material enhancements.”

The Blaine County Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that describes its mission as to “focus community resources and raise funds for the Blaine County schools in order to promote academic excellence, equitable education and a healthy student environment.”

For more information on the foundation, visit the organization’s website at www.supportbcef.org or contact McCabe at (208) 578-5449.
