Cabin Fever a success for SV5B swimmers

Competition in Caldwell


     Fourteen members of the Sun Valley 5B Swim Team placed high as they competed against 275 swimmers representing 11 teams during the Caldwell’s annual Cabin Fever Invitational Feb. 8-9.

     SV5B coach Brian Gallagher was impressed with the team’s results. Many of the team’s swimmers dominated the top three places in their respective events.

     At this event SV5B welcomed Emma Desserault, 10, and Andrew Almann, 11, to their first Snake River Swimming competition.

     Maddie Johnson presided over the Women’s 15-and-over class winning all six of her events in Caldwell. They were 200 free, 200/400 I.M., 200 back, 100 breast and 100 fly.

     Kaedi Fry captured three events—50 fly, 100 back and 50 breast—and placed second in three. They were 200 free, 200 back and 200 I.M.

     Katherine Lemma won three events (50, 100 and 500 free) and claimed three third places (200 free, 100 breast, 200 I.M.

     Ashley Dreyfus boasted three second-place finishes in 50 fly, 50 and 100 breast, and two fourth places in 50 free and 100 fly.

     Danielle Doerflein placed third in 50 breast, fourth in 50 fly, fifth in the 50 free, seventh in 100 breast and 10th in 200 free.

     Among Girls’ 13-14 swimmers, Petra Glenn won 500 free, took second in 100/200 free, fifth in 50 free and 200 I.M., and seventh 100 back.

     Faye Prekeges took first place in 200 free and picked up second place in 50 fly, and a fifth in 100 back.

     In Girls’ 11-12, Eva Carlson was second in 100 fly, third in 50 fly, and picked up fourth in her first 200 I.M., fifth in 50 breast, ninth in 100 breast, and 11th in 50 free.

     Kew Clayton placed eighth in 50 back and 10th in 200 free, 12th in 100 free, 14th in 100 breast and 100 back, and 16th in 50 breast.

     In Girls’ 9-10, Bel Clayton took eighth in 100 breast and 10th in 50 free, 16th in 50 fly, 18th in 100 free, 19th in 50 breast, and 24th in 50 back.

     Emma Desserault finished 17th in 100 back, 19th for 50 free, 27th in 100 free and 28th in 50 back.

     In Boys’ 13-14, Mason Johnson placed in the top five in four events (4th 200 free, 5th 200 I.M., 4th 200 back, 3rd 100 fly). He also captured seventh place in 100 back and eighth in 100 breast.

     In Boys’ 11-12, Andrew Almann took 18th in 50 back.

     In Girls’ 12-and-under relays: fifth place in the medley went to the SV5B team of Kew Clayton, Bel Clayton, Carlson and Desserault. Also in relays, the 200 free team of Kew Clayton, Bel Clayton, Desserault and Carlson was eighth.

     Weekday training at the Wood River Community YMCA pool in Ketchum continues through the first week in March, at which point Gallagher will take the entire squad to Nampa’s annual Open Invitational March 7-9.
