Monroe Cup brings 175 young skiers to Baldy

     Intermountain Division alpine ski racing for juniors came to Idaho last weekend with Monroe Cup North Series slalom/giant slalom races for 175 kids ages 8-13, and Trudi Bolinder super giant slaloms at Bogus Basin near Boise.


Monroe Cup at Sun Valley

     Well attended with 73 Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation racers among 175 kids from Idaho and Wyoming, the Monroe Cup took place Saturday and Sunday on Baldy’s Cozy and Hemingway ski runs.

     Sun Valley’s Buey Grossman (1-SL, 2-GS) topped a lengthy list of SVSEF first-sheet finishers in U-12 (ages 10-11) boys. Ethan Daves (SL) and Logan Chai (GS) clocked the top times in U-14 (12-13) boys.

     Sage Curtis and Marit Kaiser made the podium with second places in U-12 girls, while Madison Ferris won twice in U-14 girls. Jessica Blackburn (SL) and Hannah Ferris (GS) were U-10 (8-9) race winners for Sun Valley.

Trudi Bolinder Memorial SGs at Bogus Basin

     SVSEF U-21 racer Linnea Baysinger and U-18 Taylor Cooper recorded overall podium finishes to lead 37 SVSEF racers at Trudi Bolinder Memorial super giant slaloms Friday through Sunday on Paradise run at Bogus Basin Ski Resort outside of Boise.

     Other SVSEF class podiums among the 140 competitors from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah went to Will Snyder, Ben Kanellitsas, Austin Savaria, Duncan Fuller, Karina Schwartznau, Madison Milgard and Olivia Wentzell.

     Top SVSEF SG class finishes at Bogus were:

     · U-21 women: 1—Linnea Baysinger (won Friday’s SG by .62 seconds). 2—Karina Schwartznau (6th overall twice).

     · U-21 men: 3—Ben Kanellitsas (5th overall).

     · U-18 women: 1—Madison Milgard (10th overall twice). 2—Olivia Wentzell.

     · U-18 men: 1—Taylor Cooper (3rd overall) and Austin Savaria (5th overall). 4—Payton Anderson. 6—Jay Fitzgerald and Griffin Curtis. 7—Montana Kurahara. 8—Stockton Troyer. 12—Tanner Riedel. 13—Trenor Gould. 17—Emmett Say. 19—Hunter Kern.
