Lefty’s carries top seed into Gund Cup tourney

Semi-final games next Tuesday


     Ryan Enrico’s second goal of the game, on a power play goal with three minutes left, gave Lefty’s Bar & Grill a 3-2 victory over Yoga College Tuesday on the final night of the Senior “A” Hockey League regular season at Sun Valley Skating Center.

     Lefty’s Bar & Grill (7-5-0) earned the top seed in the upcoming Gund Cup tournament. Trevor Thomas added the other Lefty’s goal. David Dredge, Rian Timmons scored for Yoga (6-6-0) on assists by Dredge and Scott Winkler.

     Lefty’s tied with Morgan’s Fine Finishes (7-5-0) for the top spot, but Lefty’s earned the nod for the top tournament seed with 3-0, 3-2 and 3-0 wins in the four-game series with Morgan’s in the regular season. Morgan’s won one of the four games by a 3-2 score.

     The outcomes of Tuesday’s league games including Morgan’s Fine Finishes winning 3-2 over Sun Valley Auto/Grumpy’s (4-8-0) set up the semi-final games Tuesday, Feb. 25. Lefty’s will play No. 4 Grumpy’s, and No. 2 Morgan’s will play No. 3 Yoga College.

     Next Tuesday’s winners will face off in the Gund Cup tournament championship Tuesday, March 4.

     Peter Atkinson tallied the game winner with one minute left in overtime for Morgan’s Tuesday night. Tyler Hanson and Tom Trieschman scored for Morgan’s in regulation on assists by Eric Demment, Mason Noyes and Mike Punnett.

     Skating with only nine players, SV Auto Club/Grumpy’s was led by two goals off the stick of Vilnis Nikolaisons. Assists went to Pete Prekeges and Jesse Sammis.
