Author talk and signing for ‘No Better Friend: Celebrities and the Dogs They Love’

    Dog lover Elke Gazzara and her beloved miniature dachshund, Stella, will be together—and reportedly, dressed alike—when they appear at The Community Library Tuesday, Feb. 25, to discuss Gazzara’s latest book, “No Better Friend: Celebrities and the Dogs They Love.”
   A portion of the proceeds from sales of the book, which will be available during the event from 6-7:30 p.m., will benefit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
   The book is described as a unique collection of intimate essays by celebrities about the dogs who have touched their lives, giving the inside scoop on the bond between owner and dog, defined not by status or popularity but instead founded on what truly matters: loyalty and love.
   The personal stories promise to reveal a hidden side of celebrities, and in them find joy, laughter and a deeper connection to our favorite icons.
   Each essay includes a photo of the contributor and his or her beloved canine. The book features stories from: Carl Bernstein, Andrea Bocelli, Nick Clooney, Fe Fendi, Massimo Ferragamo, Frank Gehry, Kathie Lee Gifford, Carolina Herrera, Pia Lindstrom, Rich Little, Patti LuPone, Steve Martin, Joe Pesci, Bernadette Peters, Natalie Portman, Rex Reed, Mickey Rourke, Gena Rowlands, Mark Ruffalo, Julian Schnabel, Omar Sharif, Liz Smith, Elaine Stritch, Gay Talese, Tommy Tune, Robert Vaughn, Wim Wenders, Franco Zeffirelli and many more.
   Gazzara, a former model, entrepreneur and author of “Madison Avenue Maxi,” met award-winning actor Ben Gazzara while working on a film in Seoul, South Korea. They were married from 1982 until his death in 2012. Elke and Stella divide their time between Italy and New York City.
