Swoon after skiing with February Follies
Enjoy a cabaret evening of songs and laughter as the nexStage Theatre presents February Follies on Saturday, Feb. 15, and Sunday, Feb. 16.
February Follies is a winter show featuring a compilation of memorable songs, starring many talented vocalists and a guest performer from Tulsa, Okla., the baritone Steve Antry. Jim Watkinson will be featured on piano, with musical direction by Patty Parsons. The cast will sing their personal favorites and there will be surprise special guests each night.
There will be a no-host bar for wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres. The show will run about 90 minutes. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 726-4TKS.
Learn about seed bombing at the Garden
Aerial reforestation, also known as “seed bombing,” is a technique of introducing vegetation to land by throwing or dropping compressed bundles of seed balls from above.
The Sawtooth Botanical Garden south of Ketchum is hosting a discussion of the concept led by Natalie Rose of Rooted in Nature and Betsy Mizell of the Idaho Conservation League on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 1-3 p.m.

Family of Woman Film Festival tickets available
The seventh annual Family of Woman Film Festival will take place at the Sun Valley Opera House from March 7-10, with dramatic and documentary film screenings from around the globe and internationally recognized speakers.
Tickets to all the screenings will be available today, Feb. 12, at Chapter One Bookstore and Iconoclast Books in Ketchum. Individual tickets are $15 or $60 for all five films.

Casino Royale a grand outing for Company of Fools

Dance and Olympics partner for Crisis Hotline
Celebrate the Sochi Olympics and help those struggling with life’s curveballs at the Club Sochi Disco & Olympics Party on Sunday, Feb. 16.
The party will benefit The Crisis Hotline, a free and anonymous phone line answered by trained volunteers who can link callers with services and lend a compassionate ear 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
DJ Spicetrain will spin tunes and Olympians Dick Fosbury, Melanie Palenik Simboli, Willie Banks and John Naber will mingle with guests. Watch the games on a big screen TV and enjoy Team USA cocktails.
The party site is adjacent to Cava Cava restaurant at 230 Walnut Ave. in Ketchum.

Last chance to ‘Wish You Were Here’
The Community Library’s Regional History Librarian Sandra Hofferber will lead a free tour of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts’ current exhibit “Wish You Were Here,” as its run comes to an end.
Guests can enjoy a glass of wine as Hofferber offers an intimate view of the exploration of travel, tourism and the American road trip and learn more about the area’s railroad history and how it relates to the development of Sun Valley.
The tour begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at The Center in Ketchum.

Photographers challenged to shoot athletes
Photographer Karl Weatherly has invited five talented local photographers to participate in an exciting new venture for fame and prizes.
Ray Gadd, Cody Haskell, Matt Leidecker, Mark Oliver and Craig Wolfrom will have one day to photograph a local athlete of their choice skiing or snowboarding on Baldy or Dollar and compile a three-minute slideshow with music to be judged by a panel of esteemed judges.
The Sun Valley Mid-Winter Photo Challenge (check out their Facebook page) will culminate in a show on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. at Whiskey Jacques’ in Ketchum.
95 years of library to be celebrated
The Hailey Public Library is celebrating 95 years in existence with a party Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 5-7 p.m. with refreshments, cake and live music.
The Hailey Arts Commission will unveil its mosaic project and there will be a chance to name a mascot bear as special guests share their passion for the Hailey library.
Father-daughter dance set
Fathers, grab your daughters ages 5-13 and whisk them out onto the dance floor while helping support the Young Wolverines Spanish Club and its effort to get to Puerto Rico.
“A Night of Elegance” will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, from 6-9 p.m. in the Wood River Middle School cafeteria.
Admission is $20 per couple and $5 for each extra daughter.

Open house at The Parlor House
The Parlor House, on the corner of Sun Valley Road and First Avenue, will host an open house on Friday, Feb. 14, from 5-8 p.m.
Featured exhibits will include works by artists Tom Teitge, Cindy Tower, Gabe Embler, Kevin Bothwell, Braden Jon Anderson, Jineen Griffith and Ryan Anderson.
The Parlor House is a new community collective art space, which offers an alternative gallery for local, emerging and established artists. As a creative arts venue, The Parlor House will offer workshops and classes, music rehearsal space, outdoor film screenings and much more for artists to convene with like-minded people and to foster creativity.
The Parlor House is the brainchild of Ryan Anderson and his brother Braden Jon Anderson, who have launched a Kickstarter campaign to obtain equipment and help make renovations to the building. MASSV tickets on pre-sale
The Music Art Showcase Sun Valley, aka MASSV, is offering a limited number of two-day passes at a price discount until they’re gone.
The two-day festival takes place Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26, at a location to be determined.
The lineup of artists is still in progress, but will include live music, electronic music DJs, laser light shows, street-dance performances, live art installations, on-site camping and more.

Shelter staff ‘spaying it forward’
To help alleviate some of the burden on the animal shelters in our neighboring communities, the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley’s staff are performing spay/neuter surgeries on animals from the Twin Falls, Jerome and Burley animal shelters this month.
Providing assistance to these shelters will help them reduce the population of homeless animals in their communities, therefore reducing the need to euthanize otherwise adoptable animals. It has the added benefit of reducing the number of homeless animals that land in the local shelter as well, since animals from these other shelters or litters from them often end up in the Wood River Valley.

Zenergy opens a new club in Boise
The Goo Goo Dolls will give a free concert to celebrate the opening of Zenergy Boise, Saturday, Feb. 15. The public is invited to tour the new health and fitness facility on the second floor of the Zions Bank building on Main Street in downtown Boise.
Zenergy Health Club and Spa in Ketchum was listed as one of the “most luxurious fitness clubs across America” by CNBC and one of the “coolest clubs in America” by Shape magazine.
