The Blaine County School District board of trustees announced this week that it is now accepting applications for a new Zone 4 board member to replace former board Chairman Paul Bates, who resigned in January.
Applicants must live in Zone 4, which encompasses all of Ketchum west of state Highway 75 and areas north of Deer Creek Road to the Custer County line.
Anyone interested in applying for the vacancy must compose a letter stating their interest in serving on the board. The letter needs to be addressed, emailed or hand delivered to Board Clerk Laurie Kaufman, at lkaufman@blaineschools.org or 118 West Bullion St., Hailey, Idaho 83333.
The deadline for receipt of letters is 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
A special board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, at the district office to interview applicants. The newly appointed board member will serve through June 2017 and may run for election for a four-year term in May of 2017.
Questions concerning board member duties can be directed to Kaufman from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Fridayat (208) 578-5003.
Bates tendered his resignation on Jan. 20 after allegations arose that minors consumed alcohol at his mid-valley home during a New Year’s Eve celebration the night of Dec. 31, 2013. In his letter of resignation, Bates stated that he went to bed early that night and had not been aware that uninvited minors came to his home and allegedly consumed alcohol. Nonetheless, Bates took responsibility for what happened since the incident occurred in his home.
