Bring snow shovels, help prepare Boulder course
Boulder Mountain Ski Tour organizers need volunteers this week to help prepare the finish line area of the 32-kilometer course that will host over 600 cross-country ski racers on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The Boulder snow shoveling party is today, Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 22-23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a snow shovel and/or big scooper, park at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and cross the highway. Work will be done on the final 1 kilometer of the course.
Sun Valley Freestyle Spectacular this weekend
The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Freestyle/Freeski team hosts its home meet called the Sun Valley Freestyle Spectacular Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 23-26 at Sun Valley Resort. Halfpipe competition is Thursday and slopestyle Friday on Dollar Mountain. Moguls are Saturday and duals moguls Sunday on Baldy.
Try the sport of curling in Stanley
Visit Stanley, Idaho north of Ketchum over the Jan. 25-26 weekend and learn the sport of curling at Stanley’s outdoor ice rink, thanks to the non-profit Boise Curling Club (boisecurlingclub.org).
The club is staging its second annual Sawtooth Outdoor Bonspiel (SOB) beginning with a free curling lesson Saturday, Jan. 25 at noon. Last year’s inaugural event featured 10 teams. Organizers hope for 16 this year. Championship of the friendly meet is Sunday from 10 a.m. and noon.
Bonspiel is a curling tournament of several games, often held on a weekend and many times outdoors. Spectators are welcome. Visit the Web site at sobidaho.com or call Rachel Holtgard at 208-340-0589.
Lacrosse meeting is Jan. 28
Organizers of the 11th-year Wood River Warriors Lacrosse Club program have set an organizational meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 28 in Hailey to outline plans for the spring season. A player-and-parent meeting is set for Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 211 of the Community Campus in Hailey. The season begins in mid-March and lasts into June.
In a press release, Warriors organizers stated, “Last year, there were high school and U-15 teams. This year we need adults interested in coaching and/or refereeing home games, especially for the younger players elementary level and up. Training will be provided.”

Aardvarks slips past Bad Dogs 3-2
Aardvarks (6-3-1) handed previously-unbeaten Hutch’s Bad Dogs (7-1-2) its first setback by a 3-2 score during Sunday’s B+ Hockey hockey action at Sun Valley Skating Center.
Ned Burns, Rob Prew and Chris Corwin scored for Aardvarks. Alex Baron and Dan Choma lit the light for Hutch’s, with assists by Andy Bloedorn and Shannon Flavin.
Lampl’s Garage (4-6-0) got two goals from Tom Trieschman and one by Mark Bucknall in a 3-1 victory over Flounders (5-4-1). Will Hemmings scored for Flounders.
Skating to a 5-5 tie were Sun Valley Auto Club/Vipers (2-6-2) and Sharks (2-6-2). Vipers scorers were Scott Seaward (2 goals), Mark Bucknall, Tyler Corrock and Chris Salvatierra (2 assists), with Sarah Benson pitching in three assists. Alan Dupuis (2 assists) had the hat trick for Sharks. Jeff Ford also scored, with three assists, and Ted Kelley added a goal.
On Sunday, Jan. 26: 4 p.m. Racers vs. Wild, 5:15 p.m. Wolves vs. Blues, 6:30 p.m. Aardvarks vs. SV Auto Club/Vipers, 7:45 p.m. Flounders vs. Bad Dogs, 9 p.m. Lampl’s Garage vs. Sharks.

Register teams now for Sawtooth Relay
Team entries are now being accepted for the 23rd annual Sawtooth Relay Saturday, June 14 running a 62-mile course from Stanley to Ketchum for six-person teams, according to relay director Terry Hoebelheinrich. The 310-team limit is expected to be reached before the March 31 deadline. Entry forms are available at sawtoothrelay.com. Sawtooth Relay is a non-profit that funds medical research to treat or cure polycystic kidney disease. Call 853-1221 for details.
