Carey boys stay unbeaten in Northside hoops

     Nate Adamson put the Carey High School boys’ varsity basketball team on his back and carried the Panthers to a 55-42 Northside Conference home win over the Castleford Wolves Thursday.

     Adamson scored 15 of his game-high 20 points before halftime sparking coach Dick Simpson’s Panthers (6-6, 3-0) to a 33-19 lead at the break. The Carey junior guard added 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 7 assists and 2 blocked shots for the game.

     Other Panther contributors were Joe Parke (13 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block), Collin Whitby (7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists), Matt Whitworth (4 points, 4 boards, 4 steals, 1 block), Chris Peck (4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists), Derrick Baird (4 points, 3 rebounds) and Luis Garcia (2 points, 3 boards, 3 steals).

     Topping Castleford (2-9, 1-1) were seniors Coy Surrett (17 points, 12 rebounds), Rylee Reynolds (10 points, 3 assists) and John Wiseman (5 points, 9 boards, 4 blocked shots).

     The Panthers hosted Camas County of Fairfield (3-8, 1-3) Tuesday, and travel to Murtaugh (1-12, 0-4) on Thursday, to Castleford Friday for a non-conference tussle and over to Bliss on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

     Still unbeaten in league and still seeking a win streak, Carey hoped to sweep the three Northside games and concentrate on its final home league clashes with Lighthouse Christian Feb. 4 and Dietrich (11-2, 3-0) on Friday, Feb. 14.

 

Cutthroats win over Bliss

     Senior Taylor Adler pumped home a season-best 23 points leading the Community School boys’ varsity cagers (3-5, 2-2) to a 58-30 home win over Bliss Thursday in Sun Valley.

     Daniel DuFur chipped in 11 points, Doug DuFur 9, Keegan Whitelaw 6, Garrett Rawlings 5 and Alex Feldman 4.

     The Cutthroats host Lighthouse Christian Academy (10-4, 3-1) in another Northside Conference league game Thursday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m., and go to Twin Falls Christian Academy (10-1) Friday.

 

Carey girls take Castleford to the wire

     Playing one of its best games of the season, the Carey High School girls’ varsity put up a season-best 51 points in a 55-51 home loss to the Castleford Wolves Thursday.

     Carey led 36-32 in the third quarter before the Wolves led by junior Sydney Ellsworth (8 of 21 points in the third) went on an 11-0 run to go ahead for good. Wolves freshman Haddee Reynolds added 13 points.

     Panther top scorer Medin Cenarrusa tallied 16 points including 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Lilly Rivera added 14, Kylie Castle 10, Natalie Villanueva 7, Paige Koudelka 3 and Clarissa Kirkland 1.

     Rockland won 39-24 at Carey (2-12, 0-3) Friday with Cenarrusa scoring 12 and Rivera 6.

 

Wrestlers pin Filer 42-30

     Wood River High School wrestlers won five of the six matches that were contested during Thursday’s 42-30 Wolverine dual meet win at Filer.

     Kaleb Guisasola captured a 2:53 pin at 132 pounds and Kyle Clark added a pin at 170. Cooper Bailey recorded a 21-5 technical fall at 138 and Ryan Anderson logged a 12-2 major decision at 120. Cameron Bingham won a 6-5 decision at 145.

     One highlight for coach Shawn Huntington came when James Thomas, after earning a forfeit win at 106, asked to wrestle at 113. Thomas then pinned his Filer foe at 113.

     Wood River goes to the New Plymouth Invitational Friday.
