Busy month for youth hockey players

Home girls’ tourney this weekend


     January has been a busy month for Sun Valley Youth Hockey teams including a second-place finish for coach John Stevens’ Bantams (ages 13-14) during the Jan. 11-12 tourney on the Salmon rink.

     In other SVYH news from coaches and team spokesmen:

 

Girls hockey meet Jan. 18-19

     Sun Valley Youth Hockey U-14 girls will host a two-day, four-team tournament Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 18-19 at Sun Valley Skating Center. Saturday’s game schedule is:

     9 a.m. Team Wyoming vs. McCall; 10:25 a.m. Sun Valley vs. Salmon; 1:30 p.m. Wyoming vs. Sun Valley; 2:50 p.m. McCall vs. Salmon; 6 p.m. Sun Valley vs. McCall; and 7:25 p.m. Wyoming vs. Salmon.

     The U-14 girls’ squad posted a 3-1-0 record and 14-6 goals-against during the Idaho Falls tournament Jan. 11-12. Goalie Evi Johnson made 42 saves in three games and Sydney Roberts had five saves in a game. Game pucks went to Anik Zarkos, Megan Johnston, Daisy Buxton and Morgan Benson. Here are scorers:

     Megan Johnston (3 goals/1 assist), Anik Zarkos (3/0), Kasey Johnson (0/4), Daisy Buxton (2/1), Denali Stevens (1/2), Scout Hutchinson (1/2), Audra Mary (2/0), Sydney Roberts (2/0), Taylor Hebert (0/2) and Evi Johnston (0/1). Also attending was Abigail Benson.

 

Squirt home tournament

     During the Jan. 10-12 Squirts (ages 9-10) home tournament, Sun Valley White went 3-1-0 with a 20-15 goals-against and Sun Valley Black was 1-2-1 with a 14-24 mark.

     SV White scorers were Slater Whitehead (8 goals/2 assists), Zack Benson (3/2), Alex Lengyel (3/1), Oliver Wiedemann (1/1), Clayton Elsbree (1/1), Jake Nikolaisons (1/1), Carter Sammis (1/1), Wilson Webster (1/1), Lola Randolph (0/2), Dylan Bauer (1/0), Penelope Weekes (0/1) and Maddie Dunn (0/1). Eleanor Sammis also played. The goalies were Elsbree (58 saves), Russell Stumph (12) and Nikolaisons (11 saves).

     Ringing up points for SV Black were Ashton Tanner (1/6), Maddie Gittins (3/1), Deke Burrell (4/0), Colby Speth (2/1), Zane Lyon (3/0), Nils Huss (0/2), Taylor Nelson (0/2), Jessie Burks (1/1), Zake Agnew (0/1) and Finn Naghsh (0/1). Also skating were Caroline Seaward, Jake Charpentier and Peri O’Connell. Goalies were Max Jenson (27 saves), Speth (20), Sebastian Buxton (14) and Naghsh (4).

 

Peewees skate at Salmon

     The SVYH Peewees (ages 11-12) went 1-3-0 during the Jan. 4-5 Salmon tournament. A highlight was a 2-1 victory over Bozeman (Mt.) during which Evi Johnson stopped 13 of 14 shots, and Fletcher Stumph scored twice, one shorthanded.

     Playing for fifth place against Idaho Falls, Sun Valley came up short 3-2 despite 16 saves by Johnson and a pair of shorthanded goals by Stumph and Morgan Benson. In two other losses, goalie Andrew Nelson racked up 57 saves on 68 shots. Suns goals were by D.J. Gralenski, Crow Macdonald and Luke Worst, assists to Teagan McAvoy and Seamus O’Connell.
