Big night of Senior “A” hockey action

Yeates sparks Morgan’s rally


     One outstanding individual effort and one thrilling finish highlighted Tuesday’s Senior “A” Hockey League action at Sun Valley Skating Center.

     Sun Valley Suns defenseman Doug Yeates scored five goals and added two assists leading Morgan’s Fine Finishes (3-3-0) past first-place Sun Valley Auto Club/Grumpy’s (4-2-0) by an 8-2 score—after falling behind 2-0.

     Single goals for the winners came from Tom Trieschman, Peter Atkinson and Tyler Hanson (1 assist). Other assists came from Tony Benson, Chris Benson, Chris Zarkos and Dave Patrie. For Grumpy’s, Frank Salvoni scored twice and Vilnis Nikolaisons once.

     In the other game, Shannon Flavin scored the game winner with seven seconds on the clock giving Lefty’s Bar & Grill (3-3-0) a 4-3 triumph over Yoga College (2-4-0). John Kearney Jr. won the faceoff, pulled the puck to Trevor Thomas on the point and Flavin stuffed the rebound home.

     Adding goals were Ivars Muzis, Ryan Enrico (1 assist) and Trevor Thomas (1 assist). New Suns player Mike Curry chipped in with two assists.

     Yoga scorers were Pete Whitehead, Jack Weekes and Scott Winkler, assists to Clint Lightner and Mark Belanger.

     Next games: Tuesday, Jan. 14 with Yoga against Grumpy’s at 8 p.m. and Lefty’s facing off with Morgan’s at 9:10 p.m.
