Playing under-manned over the holiday with nine players including two goaltenders, the Sun Valley high school hockey team won the “B Division” championship of the four-day Missoula (Mt.) High School Classic Monday, Dec. 30.

Sun Valley, coached by Tim Jeneson and Caleb Baukol, dominated Canada’s Chestermere Lakers 11-3 in the championship game of the five-team tournament.

Gus Conrad and Dylan Broman each scored three-goal hat tricks. Broman also earned two assists and Conrad added one assist.

The champs out-shot the Canadians 36-24 and extended their 5-3 lead after two periods to the final 11-3 with a six-goal third-period explosion. Other major scorers were Roger Figge (2 goals, 2 assists), Jack Swanson (1 goal) and Riley Sibbach (2 goals, 1 assist).

Goalies Henry Everitt and Dehner Figge kept Chestermere in check.

Earlier in the tournament, Sun Valley defeated Chestermere 5-1 with a 40-22 shooting edge and two power-play goals. The five different goal scorers were Roger Figge, Sibbach, Barsch, Broman and Conrad (shorthanded).

Broman and Swanson scored goals in a 2-1 victory over Moscow, and Sun Valley nipped host Missoula 7-6 with Roger Figge notching the hat trick. Sun Valley also defeated the Midget U-17 Junior Steelheads by a score of 6-3, with three power-play goals.
