Summer sizzles

Music lineups across the valley

By JENNIFER LIEBRUM

The Northern Rockies Music Festival isn’t the only event with a new name this year. The concert series formerly known as the Back Alley Parties is now Wicked Wednesdays at the Wicked Spud. Like the rationale that the festival was more than just folk music as reason for the change, the music that’s been at the Wicked Spud for many years now hasn’t been in an alley for about as long.
But even with the name change, the concerts at the Hailey burger joint still are being held for charitable purposes. Every week will benefit an organization in the valley, said Mitzi Mecham, who is now organizing the effort.
Concerts will be held every Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. starting tonight, June 12, with the 812 Band benefiting Mecham’s youth Music ’n’ Me program.
June 19 will be Hoodwink for wounded veterans program Higher Ground; June 26, it’s the Sofa Kings for Young Life. July 3 is TBD, July 17 is Kim Stocking for local firefighters. July 24, Like a Rocket will play for the Advocates for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; July 31, Johnny Valenzuela plays for the Sun Valley Ballet; Aug. 7, All Night Diner will play for someone TBD; Aug. 14, is Up a Creek for the Wood River Volleyball Club and Aug. 21 is Paddy Wagon for a TBD charity.
Mecham said raffle prizes provided from each organization will be offered at each show. For the opening night festivities there will be a guitar giveaway as well as other musical gifts and certificates.
