Babe Ruth finale matches WR Gold and Green

At Founders Field

Led by the strong pitching of Kyle Nelson and Christian Hovey, the Wood River Gold team coached by Lars Hovey and Juan Martinez won the championship game of the six-team Babe Ruth League baseball tournament May 31 at Founders Field in Hailey.
Wood River Gold (14-2 on the spring season) won the final game 9-2 over the Wood River Green squad (13-3) coached by Gunner Whitehead and Charlie Dunn. The Hailey-based 13-15 year-old teams were top seeded in the league tournament after outstanding spring seasons.
Both local teams won their tournament semi-final games Thursday, May 30. Wood River Green defeated Jerome Eye Center 6-1 at Founders Field, and Wood River Gold was a 6-3 winner over Jerome Rotary at Hailey’s Nelson Field diamond.
The summer Babe Ruth season got off to a winning start for the Wood River Baseball and Softball Association (WRBSA) Babe Ruth U-15 team on Saturday, June 8.
Coach Martinez’s squad won the Northside tournament at Jerome in come-from-behind fashion—winning their final two games and beating an older East Boise squad for the title.
The winning team also coached by Keven Abbott and Jordan Moeller featured Zach Nelson, Christian Hovey, Cade Schott, Evan Hesselbacher, Wyatt Parish, Jens Blackman, Wilson Dunn, Kyle Nelson, Alec Broman, Jett Erickson, Tiernan Naghsh, Canyon Macdonald, Hunter Stewart, Andy Ruiz, Brock Mary, Owen Gifford and Jack Stevens.
